In place of the former GB 18218-2009, the compulsory standard GB 18218-2018 specifies the technical basis and methods in identifying major hazard installations for hazardous chemicals.
The main differences between this standard and GB 18218-2009 are as follows:
- It is specified that the standard does not apply to the off-site transport of hazardous chemicals (see 1 [d] in this standard, and 1 [d] in GB 18218-2009);
- The definitions of hazardous chemicals and major hazard installations for hazardous chemicals are modified (see 3.1 and 3.4 in this standard, and 3.1 and 3.4 in GB 18218-2009); - The definition of mixtures is added (see 3.7 in this standard);
- The classification of major hazard installations is modified and involves two types, namely product unit and storage unit (see 4.1.1 in this standard, and 4.1.1 in GB 18218-2009); - The names of some hazardous chemicals are modified (see Table 1 in this standard, and Table 1 in GB 18218-2009);
- The classification methodology of hazardous chemicals is modified (see 4.1.2 in this standard, and 4.1.2 in GB 18218-2009);
- The methodology of determining the actual quantity of hazardous chemicals is added (see 4.2.2 in this standard);
- The requirements on identification of mixtures is added (see 4.2.3 in this standard);
- The methodology of grading major hazard installations is added (see 4.3 in this standard).
