Summary

This standard was proposed and formulated on the basis of referring to the NSF standard “Drinking Water Treatment Chemicals - Health effects” (ANSI/NSF 60-1996) which was developed under the responsibility of National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), USA with the aid of the American Water Works Association Research Foundation, the Association of State Drinking water Administrators and the American Water Works Association, and in combination of the practical usage of drinking water treatment chemicals in China. 

This standard may provide scientific basis for the implementation of the “Administrative measures for the hygienic supervision of drinking water” jointly issued by the Ministry of Construction and Ministry of Health and as well for the Ministry of Health to carry out the hygiene license system for products involved with the hygiene and safety of drinking water. 

This standard will be implemented since October 1, 1998. 

Annexes A and B of this standard are all normative annex. 

This standard was proposed by the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China. 

The drafting units of this standard are: Institute for Environmental Health Monitoring of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, and Liaoning Station for Health and Epidemic Prevention. 

The main drafters of this standard are: Xu Fengdan, Li Changshan, Tao Yi, Liu Guilan and Feng Chaohua. 

This standard is subject to the interpretation of the Institute for Environmental Health Monitoring of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine upon the entrustment of the Ministry of Health.
