ASEAN-Japan Chemical Safety Database in Full Operation

After 1 year’s trial operation, the ASEAN-Japan Chemical Safety Database (AJCSD) was officially and fully launched on April 28, 2016. It is a free-of-charge online database developed by Japan with the joint efforts of ASEAN countries aiming at enhancing information transparency, reducing compliance risks and consolidating sound chemical management under the framework of Asian Sustainable Chemical Safety Plan.

AJCSD enables comprehensive search of a chemical’s regulatory information, GHS classification results and other risk/hazard assessment information by entering its chemical identifier including CAS registry number, chemical name, molecular formula, or structure formula. It also enables the search of substances by regulatory category including countries, laws and regulations and other publications of chemical hazard and risk information.

Most of the source data are voluntarily provided by government authorities of its member countries including Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, while the sample SDSs are shared by international chemical corporations such as DIC, Wako Pure Chemical Industries and Kanto Chemical. The database records may not cover all the existing regulations related to chemicals of the member countries, and the relevant updates may be made irregularly depending on when National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) of Japan, operator of AJCSD, receives the notification from the member countries.
