China MIIT Sets up GHS Expert Consultative Committee

The committee will provide public more technical support in relation to evaluation, education training and cross-nation track study of GHS.

China’s Ministry of Information and Technology (MIIT) announced yesterday (16 May) to set up an expert consultative committee to promote the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) in China. This decision has been made upon a unanimous consensus among all member departments of the GHS inter-ministry co-presence conference.

According to China MIIT, the GHS expert committee will consist of commissioners recommended by member departments of the inter-ministry conference. The first committee session holds 22 commissioners, including one chairman of committee and four vice chairmen, who are responsible to propose expert advice and suggestions to the country’s enactment and adjustment of China GHS-related legislation, the Chinese Classification and Labelling inventory (Catalogue of Hazardous Chemicals in China), action plans of China GHS practice as well as other important policy-making issues. The committee will also provide the public more technical support in aspects of the evaluation of China GHS development, education training and cross-nation track study of global GHS.
