The Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals (2nd version), consisting of four volumes, covering 165 testing items and 186 testing methods was fully published in Sep 2013 (Volume 1 in Jun 2013). Currently both the old and new testing methods are accepted by Chinese authorities. This transitional period is designed to allow Chinese labs to build required capacities and phase out older testing methods. So far the MEP has approved 11 eco-toxicological testing institutes, which will be the first laboratories to fully implement the 2nd version of Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals according to Mr. Ying-Xin Gao, SCC-MEP Director.
