The newly established Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) has been taking over the responsibilities and duties of the former Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP). On Mar 29th, 2018, MEE held the first regular press conference since its establishment and the spokesman revealed that MEE would launch 7 significant campaigns in 2018.
A special campaign on the inspection and supervision of natural reserves
The control and treatment of air pollution in priority areas;
The implementation of management policies of imported solid wastes;
The control of illegal discharge of solid wastes and hazardous wastes;
The emission control of garbage combustion power plants;
The capacity building of wastewater treatment in urban areas and industrial parks;
The environmental protection of drinking water sources.
The spokesman also emphasized the importance of the 2nd national investigation of pollution sources. The investigation will cover both industrial and non-industrial sources. The total number of investigated pollution sources is estimated to reach 9 million. All these campaigns and moves show the determination of MEE to fulfill its missions and indicate increasing difficulties for enterprises to stay compliant with regulations.
