Japan Starts 2017 Notification of Substances Controlled under Chemical Weapons Convention

Recently, Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry issued a notice requiring enterprises to notify before Sep 30, 2016 the estimated quantity of substances controlled under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) to be manufactured and used in 2017.

In accordance with Japan’s Act on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the Regulation of Specific Chemicals, Class I Designated Substances correspond to substances in Schedule 2 of CWC and Class II Designated Substances correspond to Schedule 3. The detailed notification requirements are as follows:

  1. “Manufacture” includes products from extraction and refining processes and byproducts.

  2. “BZ” stands for 3-quinuclidinyl benzilate
