GHS implementation in China (China GHS) has made significant progress with the recent publication of a new guidance style manual by China’s MIIT on 31 May. This Chinese language manual represents a milestone in China’s adoption of GHS frameworks and clearly outlines the rationale and methodologies involved in its implementation.
The manual comprises two chapters which systematically illustrate the background, status quo and legal framework of GHS implementation in China. Enclosed at the end part is an appendix briefing global GHS implementation in the world’s major countries.
Some sections in the manual are of particular significance to affected chemical industries, such as “Classification of mixtures”, “Selecting data for GHS classification”, “where to use GHS labels”, “SDS” and “China GHS - related standards”. In the section “Administrative legislations regarding China GHS”, the MIIT outlines four main regulations that involve specific regulatory requirements and obligations for GHS hazard communication.
