It’s been one year since the revised official regulation on China’s hazardous chemicals (HazChem) registration (SAWS Order 53) went into force in August 2012. However the nationwide registration campaign has in practice suffered due to the lack of feasible supporting documents and IT problems during the upgrade of registration software. The deadlock appears finally broken, with good news coming from the Shanghai work safety agency on 30th of last month announcing the city is to lead the country in implementing Hazchem registration from this August.
