South Korea Publishes LR Election Results for 35 PEC Substances

The second round of LR election for priority existing chemical substances (PECs) under K-REACH has finished. The election results for 35 PECs were published for public reference, including CAS No., chemical name, date of LR determination, and the name of LR.

The second round of LR election should have only included 32 PECs (CL news). However, finally only 29 PECs completed the election process on 19 Feb 2016 and the LR election of the other 3 substances still requires further negotiation to finalize the election later. The 3 substances are:

CAS No. Chemical Name
1310-73-2 Sodium hydroxide
28553-12-0 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid diisononyl ester
1310-58-3 Potassium hydroxide

In addition to the 29 PECs, the LR election results for another 6 PECs were issued. For one substance (1,2-Benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one; CAS No. 2634-33-5), the votes were tied in the first round of LR election (CL news). Thus a further negotiation was made in Jan and election of LR was finalized on 22 Jan 2016. For the other 5 substances, the whole LR election process was completed voluntarily on 17 Feb 2016 without official involvement. The 5 substances are:

CAS No. Chemical Name LR Election

121-14-2 2,4-Dinitrotoluene
1338-23-4 2-Butanone peroxide

So far LR election has been completed for 155 PECs, of which 120 PECs were finalized in the first round of LR election conducted during 5 Dec to 17 Dec 2015 (CL news). For the other PECs, the LR election should be accelerated in consideration of the impending registration deadline of 30 Jun 2018.
