Taiwan CLA Concludes the Supplementary Existing Chemical Substance Nomination on August 31st

Taiwan completed the Existing Chemical Substance Inventory(draft) by April this year. In order to keep the inventory up to date, Taiwan’s Council of Labor Affairs (CLA) of the Executive Yuan reopened the Supplementary Existing Chemical Substance Nomination (SECN) from 1 June to 31 August 2012. Eligible nominators were encouraged to nominate their chemical substances according to the Direction of SECN. Other useful resources include the supplementary ECN tools, existing chemical substance inventory (draft) information system, supplementary ECN guidance and relevant documents for Supplementary ECN, etc. During the SECN period, CLA has received supplementary nominations for over 2,000 substances submitted by over 400 manufacturers.

Taiwan’s SECN is very much alike the IECSC Supplementation under China’s New Chemical Substance Notification (China REACH). The Chinese IECSC Supplementation has already been ceased since 18 November 2011 according to the MEP Notice 1366 of 2011(Notice on Ceasing IECSC Supplementation). The Supplementary Existing Chemical Substance Nomination was concluded on 31 August, 2012. The completeness of the national existing chemical substance inventory is significant to Taiwan new chemical substances notification (NCN) requirements, as only the new substances not listed in the Existing Chemical Substance Inventory need to be registered with the Taiwan CLA.
