Taiwan Revised Toxic Chemical Substances Labeling and Safety Data Sheet Regulation

The draft amendments of Taiwan’s Toxic Chemical Substances Labeling and Materials Safety Data Sheet Regulations were issued by Taiwan’s EPA on 2 May 2014 for public consultation. The final version now has been announced with no significant differences to the draft, which will come into force on 11 Dec 2014.

Compared with the current version, the main amendments are as below:

  1. The name of the regulation, Taiwan’s Toxic Chemical Substances Labeling and Materials Safety Data Sheet Regulations, is renamed as “Toxic Chemical Substances Labeling and Safety Data Sheet Regulations

  2. To align with the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), the name of “Material Safety Data Sheet” is changed to “Safety Data Sheet”.

  3. Since the Chinese National Standards (CNS) 15030 on Classification and Labeling of Chemicals has specified the classification and labeling requirements, containers and packaging of toxic chemical substances should comply with CNS 15030 serial national standards instead of the previous Appendix 1. As for the handling sites and facilities of toxic chemical substances, presenting hazard information in clearly visible locations should also refer to CNS 15030 serial national standards. The Appendix 1 of the current Regulation will be eliminated.
