Taiwan Updates Guidance on Scientific Research and Development and Product and Process Orientated Research and Development

On 2 Aug 2016, Taiwan issued the 3rd version of Guidance on Scientific Research and Development (SR&D) and Product and Process Orientated Research and Development (PPORD).

New substances manufactured/imported below 1 t/y for the purpose of scientific research and development (SR&D) are exempt from registration. However, if they are used in chemical industry rather than in academic institutions or colleges for SR&D, indirect exemption should be applied for in advance. The company needs to present relevant documents to the EPA to demonstrate exemption is applicable.

Compared to the previous version, the original paper application for the above situation is now changed to the online application to facilitate online information processing and enhance work efficiency. In addition, no major changes are made.

Such indirect exemption is valid for only 1 year. Re-application for exemption should be made before the end of exemption.

Taiwan EPA also provides an E-learning video teaching potential applicants how to do online application step by step. The link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WtZ2P_rW0I
