China GHS - Background, Updates, GB Standards, Classification, Labelling and SDS
Feb 24, 2011
In order to enhance the safety of human health and the environment, the GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of chemicals) was issued as a recommendation from the United Nations in 2003. The purpose of implementing GHS is for the provision of a recognized framework for countries without an existing system, to reduce the need for testing and evaluation of chemicals and to facilitate the international trade in chemicals whose hazards have been properly assessed and identified.

China REACH: Scope and Obligations
Feb 05, 2011
China REACH requires that the ‘new’ chemical substances in China to be notified to the Chemical Registration Center -Ministry of Environmental Protection (CRC-MEP). A new substance is any chemical substance that is not included in the Inventory of Existing Chemical Substances in China. (IECSC). Categories of exemption from notification include finished products, naturally occurring substances, alloys and non-isolated intermediates.

Data Requirements under China REACH
Oct 06, 2010
Under China REACH, depending on the notification type and the tonnage band, the minimum data requirements vary. There are three basic types of testing, physico-chemical, toxicological and eco-toxicological testing. Certain eco-toxicological testing is required to be carried out within Chinese territory in approved Chinese laboratories. This includes testing on Chinese target organisms, particularly aquatic toxicity (e.g. Zebra fish).

IECSC Search under China REACH
Aug 05, 2010
The Inventory of Existing Substances in China (IECSC) contains all the chemical substances used in China between 1992 and 2003. If a substance is not included in the IECSC, the production, import or use of this substance in China without notification is prohibited. Following the online and formal comprehensive searches, if the substance is not included on the IECSC, it is a currently a new substance in China. The 2010 IECSC inventory includes 45,602 substances.
