Jiangsu Issues Program to Strengthen Safety and Environmental Regulation of Chemical Industry

On April 27, 2019, Jiangsu’s provincial government released the Program of Jiangsu Province for Rectifying and Improving Safety and Environmental Regulation of Chemical Industry, making an ambitious pledge to overhaul the local chemical manufacturing industry in the wake of a string of chemical explosions.

Failure Rate of Food Contact Products Hit Record High in 2018

Radom inspection by SAMR showed 4.4% of food contact products were found not compliant. During GAC sampling in 2018, imported food contact materials demonstrated the lowest failure rate in recorded history at just 2.9%.

Japan Adds 15 Priority Assessment Chemicals

15 substances (given number 237~251) were designated on Apr 1st as “priority assessment chemicals” (PACs) under the Chemical Substance Control Law (CSCL) according to Japan’s Gazette[1]. This brings the total number of PACs to 223 (some deleted or grouped under one single entry in the past years).

On April 19, 2019, the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) issued a notice[1] to seek public feedback on the General Program of Technical Guidelines for Environmental Health Risk Assessment, aiming to guide and regulate the environmental health risk assessment work and protect the public health. The consultation is set to end on May 22 this year.

Jiangsu to Formulate and Revise 100 Environmental Standards

Recently, Jiangsu provincial government issued the Program for Building an Ecological and Environmental Standard System of Jiangsu Province (2018-2022)[1], specifying that by the end of 2022, 100 ecological and environmental standards will be formulated and revised.
