Indonesia’s Omnibus Law: Halal Certification to Impact Businesses

Indonesia issued a new Halal certification law, under Government Regulation 39 of 2021 (GR 39/2021) that will impact businesses in most industries. GR 39/2021 states that products that enter, circulate, and are traded in Indonesia must be Halal certified unless they are originating from materials prohibited under Islam (Haram).

Japan Releases Revised Chemical Substance Lists under PRTR

Japan released revised chemical substance lists under PRTR on October, 20, which will take effect from April 1, 2023. The number of Class I substances and Class II substances was respectively increased from 462 to 515 and from 100 to 134.

China Requires 52 Enterprises to Submit New Chemical Annual Reports by October 31

On September 28, 2021, China Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Center (SCC) released a list of 52 enterprises that failed to submit 2020 annual reports for their new hazardous substances with priority environmental concern registered under MEP Order No.7. The extended submission deadline is October 31, 2021.

China to Tighten New Pollutants Management, Industries Facing Challenges on Source Control over Toxic and Hazardous Chemical Substances

On October 11, 2021, the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) published a notice to seek public feedback on the draft Action Plan for New Pollutants Treatment. The draft Plan outlines the general requirements, goals and six major measures for new pollutants treatment, as well as the first batch of new pollutants for priority management in the annex. The consultation will end on October 22, 2021.
