China MEP Reports 12 Environmental Violations

Fifteen Chinese companies are fined and ordered to self-correction for environmental violations, including excessive pollutants emission and environmental management of hazardous chemical wastes

On 28 December 2011, the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection issued a notice that ordered relevant authorities of environmental protection at province level to strengthen the handling of 12 cases of environmental violation between October and November 2011.

According to the MEP notice, fifteen companies in the Chinese industries of pharmaceuticals, medicines, biopharmaceuticals, hazardous chemicals manufacture or disposal, and chemical engineering have severe problems in bypassing environmental evaluation of construction projects, malfunction of pollution control facilities, excessive pollutants emission, environmental management of hazardous chemical wastes, disposal of hazardous chemical wastes, etc .

Almost all the reported companies violate the national standards in treatment of water pollution or waste water discharge. In four cases, the involved companies fail to comply with the measures regulating hazardous chemical wastes transference documented in duplicates; another two companies fail to set up a warning markup for hazardous chemicals tank yard and hazardous waste areas.

The notice demands that all involved companies stop and rectify their non-conforming activities; the punishment includes environmental fines and self-correction by the end of June 2012.
