On 28 Apr, the Technology Department of MIIT(Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) published a plan to amend 6 mandatory national standards, including “Requirements for prohibited substances in automobiles”. Public consultation began April 28th and will end May 28th during which feedbacks are received by the Technology Department of MIIT, through their webpage or via email to KJBZ@miit.gov.cn (subject: feedback regarding standard approval publicity)
Requirements for prohibited substances in automobiles is expected to be completed in 2020 replacing the current recommended version GB/T 30512-2014, which came into effect on Jun 2014. GB/T 30512-2014 stipulates the prohibited substances in automobile and its components, including Pb (lead), Hg (mercury), Cd (cadium), Cr VI (Chromium), polybrominated biphenyls(PBB) and poly brominated diphenyl ethers(PBDE) in R&D, manufacture, import and market for both domestic automobile manufacturer and distributors for imported automobiles.
Previously, an appeal from industrial professionals called for the update of this standard from recommended to mandatory. This project will also help stimulate development of more sustainable and ecofriendly manufacturing techniques for China’s domestic automobile industry.
