Greenpeace to Hold China-EU Industry Forum on Safer Chemical Substitution

Background

Greenpeace East Asia Beijing office is working with SUBSPORT project, a LIFE funded project of the European Union, to organize a forum on chemical substitution in Hangzhou, China. The forum aims to provide a platform where industry and policy makers could communicate the method and approaches about safe chemical substitution.

The format and content of the forum is based on the ongoing SUBSPORT training programme, which has been conducted for more than 15 sessions across Europe since 2012. (For more information about SUBSPORT training, go to www.subsport.org). SUBSPORT training helps participants establish a methodical way of practicing substitution in companies. Furthermore, the forum will take real case stories of Substitution, delivered both by Chinese and international companies, as examples to analyze substituting chemicals, and share with peer companies.

Participants of the forum

The forum welcomes participants of a diversity of stakeholders, both domestic and international, who are interested in the hazardous chemical substitution involved in products and manufacturing process, including governmental agencies, industry, trade unions, NGOs and other stakeholders.

Cost of Forum

There will be no fee for registation, 200 RMB will be collected for Lunch and TEA.

Time of Forum

25 March, 2013

Location of Forum

Zhijiang Hotel, City of HangZhou, Zhejiang Province

The event now invites companies to submit real substitution cases

We are now inviting companies and industries to submit their real cases of substitution for the event. The cases will be presented and studied over the training for participants to better understand the Substitution practice. Representatives of companies which own the cases are welcome to present the case over the sharing session.

Potential cases covering the following substances are particularly welcome.  Cases covering these chemicals will be shared during the session.

  •  Real cases of substitution to lead in paint;

  •  Real cases of substitution to phthalates in plastics;
