Japan Adds 2 Chemicals to PACs List and Releases 308 New Substances Notified

According to the Gazette on 22 March, Japan added two substances to the List of Priority Assessment Chemicals (PACs) following the addition of 43 chemicals last Dec (see Chemlinked new on 21 Jan 2013). The total number in the List is 140 now.

The two substances newly-added are listed below:

  • sodium alkylbenzene sulphonate

  • 4-bromo-2-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-pyrrole-3-carbonitrile (CAS NO. 122454-29-9)

Required by the Chemical Subatances Control Law (CSCL), during the April to June every year, manufacturers or importers of PACs must report to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) the quantities of substances they produced or imported in the previous year and also need to let the consumers know that that their substances are PACs and their products contain PACs.

The Gazatte on 27 March released a list of 308 new substances that have been notified according to Japan’s Industrial Safety and Health Act (ISHA).
