Japan CSCL: Small Amount New Chemical Notification in 2015

The first notification period for small amount new chemical notification in 2015 will be open from Jan 20th to Jan 30th.

Since the online notification system has been updated, chemical companies may need to download the latest version from the following website: (click here)

If chemical companies want to notify more than 20 chemicals at a time and choose to submit manuscripts, they need to make appointments with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in advance.

Officials may also carry out onsite inspection to make sure the amount previously notified by companies conforms with the actual accumulated amount of a chemical imported to and manufactured in Japan from April 1st, 2014 to Jan 15th, 2015. The online system e-Gov will be used for the first time.

Notification of small amount new chemicals  (< 1 ton/year nationwide) can be submitted during 4 specified periods. The schedule for small amount new chemical notification in 2015 is as follows:

  • 1st: Jan 20th ~ 30th, for substances to be manufactured/imported between Apr 1st, 2015 and Mar 31st, 2016;

  • 2nd: Jun 1st ~ 10th, for substances to be manufactured/imported between Jul 1st, 2015 and Mar 31st, 2016;

  • 3rd: Sep 1st ~ 10th, for substances to be manufactured/imported between Oct 1 st, 2015 and Mar 31st, 2016;

  • 4th: Dec 1st ~ 10th, for substances to be manufactured/imported between Jan 1st, 2016 and Mar 31st, 2016.
