South Korea Consults on 518 Priority Existing Substances Subject to K-REACH Registration

The public consultation of the draft list of 518 priority existing chemical substances (PECs) subject to registration under the Act on Registration and Evaluation, etc. of Chemical Substances (K-REACH) will end on the 30th of Apr 2015.

Following the first announcement of the draft list at the end of last Oct (CL news release on 31 Oct 2014), KCMA opened a survey on the PEC proposals which ran until the 6th of Feb 2015 to collect information from all related industries about PECs, including potential registrants’ basic information, substance information and potential registration tonnage, etc. The information gathered will facilitate the establishment of consortiums of potential registrants for joint submission of identical substances (CL news release on 28 Jan 2015).

After the survey, the authority had sufficient information on the proposed substances to initiate the formal public consultation period as announced in Notice 2015-191. The public consultation will end on 30 April, 2015 and will finalize the PECs list before official publication in June of 2015.

This is the first batch of PECs. Companies manufacturing or importing the substances will have three years to prepare their registration dossiers due by 30 Jun 2018.
