Philippines' House Voted through Chemical Weapons Bill

On January 23, 2024, Republican of the Philippines House of Representatives approved the House Bill No. 9571 of the 19th Congresson on the third and final reading. The Bill, also known as the Chemical Weapons Prohibition Act, establishes the legislative framework for the State to conform with its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention, to which the country is a signatory.

The Philippines Consults on Updating PICCS List

In November 2023, the Philippine Environmental Management Bureau under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-EMB) released drafts on updating the Philippine Inventory of Chemicals and Chemical Substances (PICCS) for year 2022 and 2023, which would expand the present number of chemicals listed in the PICCS from 22,277 to 22,439 with the addition of 162 new chemicals.

The Philippines Consults on Chemical Control Orders for Benzene and Vinyl Chloride

The Philippines recently released the Draft Chemical Control Order (CCO) for Benzene and the Second Draft of CCO for Vinyl Chloride. In February 2022, the authority has consulted on the First Draft CCO for Vinyl Chloride. These two CCOs will take effect 15 days after publication in the newspaper of general circulation.
