China Pledges to Promote Third-party Treatment of Environmental Pollutions in Industrial Parks

On July 11, 2019, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) sent a notice [1] to local authorities in charge of development and reform and environmental issues in 20 provinces and municipalities, laying out major tasks and arrangements concerning third-party treatment of environmental pollutions in industrial parks.

Updates on Explosion at Gas Factory in Central China’s Henan Province

On July 19, an explosion rocked a coal-to-gas plant in Yima, Sanmenxia in Central China’s Henan Province. According to the latest report, fifteen people were killed, five people are missing, and 19 others were severely injured.

WTO Seeks Comments on the Draft of Vietnam Technical Regulation of Secondary Lithium Battery

Interpretation of the Draft Revision of China’s New Chemical Management System

China’s MEE published the draft revision of the Measures for the Environmental Management of New Chemical Substances (MEP Order No.7) on July 9, with public comments accepted until Aug 16, 2019. The release of the draft is another important event in the management of new chemical substances and follows shortly after the Notice of IECSC Supplementation issued by MEE (see relevant CL News) on June 21.

New Zealand Chemical Inventory Updated

Recently, New Zealand EPA released an update to the New Zealand Inventory of Chemicals (NZloC). A total of 159 chemical substances have been newly added into the original NZloC, the inventory “status”* of three chemical substances has been updated and 28 chemical substances have been deleted from the original NZloC.

MEP Order 7: Draft Revision of China’s New Chemical Management System Unveiled

The draft amendments of MEP Order 7 were issued for public consultation. Exemptions are offered to small volume new substances imported or manufactured in volumes under 100kg a year. The draft included amendments of registration types, approval criteria, post-registration management and supervision, etc.
