K-REACH: Pre-registration Information Can Still Be Updated Before Jul 19th

South Korea’s pre-registration of existing chemical substances ended on 30 June 2019. The Ministry of Environment (MoE) then issued on Jul 8th a notice which grants registrants a chance to directly supplement or update the submitted information by Jul 19th, 2019. Otherwise, a modification application should be applied for afterwards if any changes occur.

The draft of the first standard regulating food contact adhesives in China is currently subject to public consultation after 5 years in development. The list of base polymers of adhesives is expected to be separated from GB 9685 (food contact material regulation).

Japan to Restrict Exports of Three Chemicals Key to Semiconductor Industry in South Korea

Japan announced that it will remove South Korea from the “whitelist” in the Export Trade Management Order through an amendment act, and South Korea’s imports from Japan will lose preferential treatment. The export of fluorinated polyimides, photoresist and high-purity hydrogen fluoride from Japan to South Korea will be subject to heightened restrictions, which will impact local high-tech industry.

Australia SWA Consults on Proposal to Adopt GHS 7

On July 3, 2019, the Safe Work Australia (SWA) opened a consultation on the proposal to adopt an updated version of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) for management of workplace hazardous chemicals.[1] The consultation is set to end on July 28, 2019.

MEE Releases Comprehensive Management Plan for VOCs in Key Industries

China MEE released a comprehensive plan to strengthen the management of VOCs in key industries such as petrochemical, coating, packaging and printing, oil storage, gas station and so on. The plan describes the current situation and existing problems of China's VOCs governance in detail and points out management goals and methods. The major monitoring areas, focused VOCs substances, as well as the requirements for record keeping, industrial enterprises governance points and the petroleum products storage, transportation and sales governance points are all covered in the annexes of the plan.
